A third COVID-19 related death has been reported at Extendicare Kapuskasing.

The Porcupine Health Unit reported the death, which is the 12th in the region since the start of the pandemic, tonight.

"We wish to offer our most heartfelt condolences to loved ones during this difficult time," said Dr. Lianne Catton, medical officer of health, in a news release.

The outbreak at the facility was declared Jan. 7. According to the facility, as of yesterday, there were 28 residents and six staff members with active cases.

The health unit said it is working with the facility, the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Ontario Health, and local health care partners to reduce the risk and contain the outbreak.

“This is a stressful time for all," said Catton. “We need to continue to work together to protect our families, neighbours, coworkers, and communities to limit the spread of  COVID-19. I am urging everyone to stay home, especially if they are not feeling well. If  you have to go out, wear a properly fitted mask, practice physical distancing by keeping at  least 2 metres or 6 feet distance between yourself and others and wash your hands. “
