There's officially a race for mayor

Almost two months after nominations opened for the municipal election, there is officially a race for the mayor's seat. 

Daniel Fortier has registered to run for Timmins mayor in the Oct. 22 election. 

Steve Black is seeking re-election and registered the day nominations opened.

A new name has also been added to the growing list of people wanting to be one of four councillors representing Ward 5. 

Jean (John) Roy is the newest name for Ward 5.

The nomination period for the municipal election is open until July 27 at 2 p.m. Election day is Oct. 22.

The other nominations so far are:

  • Mayor - Steve Black
  • Ward 1 - Rock Whissell, Veronica Farrell
  • Ward 4 - John Curley, Pat Bamford
  • Ward 5 - Alex Szczebonski, Cory Robin, Jason Sereda, John Ivanovs
  • English public school board trustee - Bob Brush
  • English Catholic school board trustee - Colleen Landers
  • French public school board trustee - Liliane Francis, Nicole Arcand
  • French Catholic school board trustee - Langis Dion
