Kids are being encouraged to get their read on this summer.

The TD Summer Reading Club is back at both branches of the Timmins Public Library. The launch and literacy fair is being held at the main branch on 2nd Avenue on Saturday, June 15 from 2-4 p.m.

The program is for children of all ages, who can win prizes for reading in the free, bilingual program.

"The club celebrates Canadian authors, illustrators and stories and is designed to inspire kids to explore the fun of reading their way – the key to building a lifelong love of reading," reads the news release.

To participate, register at the Timmins or South Porcupine library branch any time throughout the summer, then check the library's calendar for all the related events.

This June 15 launch is a chance to learn about the program and connect with the community literacy partners. Participants will get a passport and earn a stamp for each booth they visit. Completed passports will be entered into a draw.

The schedule for the event is:

  • 2 p.m. - Program details from the Timmins Public Library and local branch of TD Canda Trust
  • 2:15 p.m. - Literacy fair featuring DARE Timmins, EarlyON Child and Family Centres, North Eastern Ontario Family and Children's Services, Science Timmins, Timmins and District Multicultural Centre, and St. John Therapy Dogs
