A charity hockey match raising cash for children's mental health is coming up.
Tickets are still available for the pre-season game between the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, the reigning Memorial Cup champions, and Sudbury Wolves. This is the second consecutive year that the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and Ontario Hockey League teams are facing off in Timmins.
The Sept. 13 game is at 7 p.m. at the McIntyre Arena and is being hosted by the United Way Centraide North East Ontario (UWCNEO) in support of youth mental health.
UWCNEO regional manager Jennifer Gorman said they are thrilled to be hosted charity match again.
"Not only is the calibre of hockey exceptional, but this game provides us with the platform to have a conversation about mental illness, and the importance of local, accessible community supports for our youth," she said in a news release.
The game was announced earlier this summer.
At that time, Gorman said most of the cash raised will be for the Youth Wellness Hub.
Last year's bout raised more than $15,000 for local youth mental health initiatives.
According to the United Way, tickets for the 2019 match up are more than half sold.
The cost is $3 for kids under six years, $5 for children seven to 12 years, $10 for students and seniors, and $12 for adults. Tickets on the licensed balcony are $15 for adults or $12 for seniors. There is also a $1 fee for tickets bought online, which you can do here.
