The site of a once-popular watering hole in South Porcupine is up for sale.

Tuesday, Timmins council declared 84 Bruce Ave. as surplus land and the property is up for sale. The appraised value is $21,000.

The property is where The Central Tavern was located and is now vacant.

Crews from the Salvage Kings TV show, which airs on the History Channel, tore down the building in September.

The property has a frontage of 50 feet on Bruce Avenue and is 94 feet long, according to the city report. It is zoned General Commercial.

"The subject land was included in the sale of land for tax arrears by public tender which closed on Nov. 9, 2018 and no bids were received," reads the report.

When the building was being demolished, the foundation was removed to two-feet below the surface on the north and west walls.

"Due to the proximity to the sidewalk and neighbouring mechanical shop, the east and south foundation walls were not removed. The subject land may be developed for commercial purposes and would represent ideal infill development. The condition of municipal servicing will require verification by the purchaser," reads the report.

The Central Tavern is one of four buildings the production company demolished.

In July 2020, Timmins council gave the go-ahead for The Salvage Kings to take down three city-owned properties — the Central Tavern, the old Tisdale public works shop on Evans Street, and a Schumacher house. Along with the city-owned properties, there was also a private residential demolition.
