NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF TIMMINS
*************************
Now is the perfect time to appreciate our pollinators. With the sun shining and gardens flourishing, pollinators like bees, butterflies, dragonflies, and hummingbirds have been taking flight. Bee City Timmins’ Pollinator Photo Contest and Pollinator Scavenger Hunt encouraged residents to capture the activity this summer.

Congratulations to Melissa Kim Rese, winner of Bee City Timmins’ Pollinator Photo Contest. Melissa’s picture of a honeybee feeding on a dandelion was the crowd favourite from the Bee City Pollinator Team panel. Melissa’s picture was one of 47 submitted during the contest. Congratulations to Claudette Kristolaitis and Nicole McLean who tied for second place.

Congratulations to Lucie Berube and Carrie Millions, Bee City Timmins’ Pollinator Scavenger Hunt winners. Both winners spent the summer recording which pollinator species they encountered while outside enjoying the season.

There are still more prizes to be won and more pollinators to champion. Bee City Timmins’ Start the Buzz garden challenge is on until September 30. Send Environmental Services a picture of your garden for the chance to win a pollinator-themed prize valued at $200. Three categories: children’s garden (under 18), adult garden (18 and over), and business or organization garden. One prize for each category.

Thank you to our generous sponsors, Glencore, Pan American Silver, Newmont and Wintergreen Fund for Conservation, for making these contests possible.
