Teen faces numerous charges

Police investigation revealed that the youth had falsely identified himself to avoid being arrested

COCHRANE - On June 26, 2017, at approximately 12:15 a.m., Cochrane officers of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a male that had been caught entering a motor vehicle on Sixteenth Avenue in the Town of Cochrane.

Police investigation revealed that the youth had falsely identified himself to avoid being arrested.

The 16-year-old male from Cochrane, Ont. was arrested and charged under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) with the following offences:

  • Youth mischief contrary to section 430(1)(c) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC)
  • Youth personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice contrary to section 403(1)(d) CC
  • Youth possession of weapon for dangerous purpose contrary to section 88 CC
  • Youth fail to comply with recognizance contrary to section 145(3) CC
  • Youth attempt to commit theft contrary to section 463 CC
  • Youth trespassing at night contrary to section 177 CC

The accused was held for bail, released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on July 18, 2017 to answer to the charges.
