Take Back The Night

Timmins and Area Women in Crisis, H.E.R.

Timmins and Area Women in Crisis, H.E.R. Place, Centre Passerelle pour Femmes, Villa RenouvEllement, Timmins & District VCARS, Tranquility House, Timmins Native Friendship Centre, Timmins Family Counselling, Cochrane VCARS and Ininew Friendship Centre are pleased to announce their collaboration for the annual Take Back the Night March in Timmins, Iroquois Falls and Cochrane.

Thirty four years ago, women began to stand up against violence and sexual assault under the banner of Take Back the Night.  The 20th annual Take Back the Night events will take place on Tuesday, Sept 24th in Timmins, Wednesday, Sept 25th in Iroquois Fall and Thursday, Sept 26th in Cochrane.  The chants will resonate on the streets when women and children united to create awareness on violence against women.  These women and children are survivors of domestic violence, advocates, victim services volunteers and supporters of the cause.

This annual event is about empowering women and creating communities safe from abuse, sexual assault, dating violence and other unhealthy relationships.  The statistics are staggering:  1 in 4 women have experienced rape or attempted rape at some point.  Take Back the Night is an international movement with its mission statement being as follows:

The Take Back The Night Foundation serves to create safe communities and respectful relationships through awareness events and initiatives. We seek to end sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual abuse and all other forms of sexual violence. TBTN empowers survivors in the healing process and inspires responsibility in all.

In Timmins, the rally, prior to the march, will be held in the parking lot of the Timmins and Area Women in Crisis Centre at 355 Wilson Avenue.  In Iroquois Falls, the rally will be held at the Jus Jordan Arena and in Cochrane, the rally will be held at The Healing Garden.

Participants will receive great giveaways and hear from the community experts on sexual violence and women’s rights to feel safe on our streets!
