'Suspicious activity' leads to arrest of Timmins man

The 43-year-old was charged with with trespass by night

While conducting foot patrols in the north end of the city yesterday evening, a Timmins Police Service officer observed apparent suspicious activity in the area of Cedar Street North and Eighth Avenue and pursued a male suspect.

The suspect was followed and observed to be allegedly rummaging through residential properties in this area.

The suspect was further observed allegedly checking shed doors and the doors of parked vehicles.

Based on the observations of the Timmins Police Service officer, the suspect was eventually arrested in a residential area near the intersection of Drew and Cedar Street North.

Benn Gage, 43, of Timmins has been charged with trespass by night contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

He has been released from police custody on an appearance notice requiring that he attend Provincial Court on Oct. 9, 2018, to answer to the charge laid against him.

The Timmins Police service reminds all property owners to take proper precautions by routinely and habitually locking their vehicles, sheds and garages.

It is also recommended that any suspicious activity be reported to the Timmins Police Service without delay for further investigation.
