Suspected purple fentanyl seized during Kirkland Lake search warrant

On Oct. 8, 2019, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police North East Region Community Street Crime Unit, the North East Region OPP Emergency Response Team, the North East Region OPP Canine Unit and members from the Kirkland Lake OPP Detachment, executed a search warrant at a residence on McCamus Avenue in the Town of Kirkland Lake, Ont.

Police seized drugs suspected to be opioids (purple fentanyl) and illicit cannabis. Total street value of the seizure is estimated to be $2,000.

As a result of the police investigation, the OPP have charged Ryley Everingham, age 29 of Kirkland Lake, Ont., with the following:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of more than four cannabis plants, contrary to section 8(1)(e) of the Cannabis Act (CA).

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on Nov. 28, 2019.
