Timmins and District Hospital would like to inform the general public that the Government of Ontario is implementing a change with the health cards as of July 1, 2020.

The Province of Ontario released the following statement regarding red and white Ontario Health Cards:  “As of July 1, 2020, red and white health cards will no longer be accepted as proof of Ontario Health Insurance Plan coverage for insured health services.”

If you use a red and white health card, it’s time to replace it with the more secure photo health card. Doing so will help protect Ontario’s health care system against potential fraud.

Residents who miss the deadline will not be denied health care however, effective July 1, 2020, anyone with a red and white Ontario health card will need to pay up front for services at a doctor’s office or hospital.
