For more than a century, Schumacher children have received gifts at Christmas and the tradition is continuing this year.
For the 102nd year, kids will receive a present courtesy of the F.W. Schumacher Christmas Gift Fund. While Mr. Schumacher died more than 60 years ago, the fund he created to buy presents for elementary school-aged children is still giving back.
These days, the Schumacher Volunteer Fire Department buys the gifts to hand out.
The fire hall was bustling with activity as the firefighters and their families wrapped the 178 presents. Children will receive their items Dec. 19 at the McIntyre Community Centre.
