Spots limited for annual Family day derby (3 photos)

Spots are still available for the popular event while a waiting list will also be set up

The Timmins Fur Council will be holding their 8th Annual Free Family Day Fishing Derby, Feb. 18, 2019 on Porcupine Lake.

The derby is completely free for kids under 16 but registration is required and spots are limited.

Over the years the derby has continued to grow and this year is no exception as they already have 110 registered kids and have only 10 spots left to be filled. Slots are available in the 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. slots.

Don't let this deter you from registering your child as the Fur Council is maintaining a waiting list for any cancellations after the spots are filled up.

Time slots available are 10 a.m. to 11 a .m., 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., and 1 p.m. to 2 p.m..

To register your child for the time slot you would like, please send the childs name, age, and parental contact information to Kaileigh Russell at [email protected].

Seeing that this derby is for children, the Timmins Fur Council will have free hot dogs, pop, and hot chocolate on hand for the kids that might get hungry or thirsty while either waiting for the big one to bite or after reeling one in.

The Timmins Fur Council will provide rods, tackle and minnows to anyone interested in registering their child.

If you haven't had the opportunity to introduce your child/children to ice fishing or the sport of fishing, I highly recommend this derby to families.
