South Porcupine brilliant under Christmas lights

This home on Shamrock and Crawford sparkled from the lights and ornaments packed on its property. Frank Giorno for TimminsToday.

A walk around South Porcupine at night on one of the coldest nights of the year last Friday with the temperature hovering around – 28 degrees Celsius revealed the warmth generated by an array of Christmas lights.

The walk went from Main Street and then east along Crawford Avenue to Shamrock, Dome, Essa. From Essa the walk veered to the South towards Porcupine Lake and over to the Airport Hotel.

The lights on each house were unique. Some were rather involved and extensive, like the house on Crawford near Shamrock. Others were very understated and simple.

This year there were some houses that used light projection equipment to dapple their home with splashes of colour.

Many had traditional lights strung along the front or on pine trees on the lawn, others had large inflated Santas or Snowmen.

None was quite as dynamic as the house on Crawford and Shamrock. It stood out as a wonderland all on its own. With lights on trees, inflated Santa being pulled by reindeers; people in cars bobbing to and fro and even a Santa being pulled by an inflated polar bear. The front of the house had a large inflated Frosty the Snowman.

Along Porcupine Lake we saw the twinkling lights from across the lake. Even the overhead lights of the walkway had a certain appeal as did the lighting of the Shady Lady Lounge and the red airplane atop of the Airport Hotel.

The lights of the Francesco's Pizzeria beckoned and across the street -- why it's Jake's a pleasant place to sing a couple of karaoke Christmas songs like Rocking Around the Christmas Tree, and Jingle Bell Rock; not to mention It's the Little St. Nick.

If we missed you home or you know of bright Christmas Lights you want to share, send them along to our editor. I am sure he would love to add your photo.

Merry Christmas South Porcupine!
