Weekend saw high-flying action

Canadian Snow Cross Racing Association (CSRA), Rockstar Energy National Snow cross Racing and Timmins' own Eclipse Financial hosted the snow cross challenge on the weekend at the Spruce St. South snow dump.

Races started at 9am with the 120cc, Novice, Sport, Trail Sport, and Junior class races kicking off the day.

Main events including the pro lite, pro open, sport 600 and Moto 1 and 2 races started at 2 p.m.

#93 Iain Hayden took first place in the Pro Open on Saturday, with #799 Stale Eggen and #999 Colby Crappo taking second and third place.

Pro Lite Class race saw Ryan Hunt in first, RJ Roy in second, and Jake Weir took third.

Sport 600 class was won by Cale Callan, Jordan Desjardin took second with Spencer Carlson coming in third.

Novice class A winners were Colton Egli, Crayden Dillon and Zach Stein.

Angela Vacchino works closely with the CSRA to bring the snow cross races to Timmins.

Although in the past the CSRA races were held in Timmins, there was a time when Sudbury and Cochrane were hosting the races. This year marks the third consecutive year of the races being held in Timmins and there is no sign of that changing for future race events.

“We always have a positive response in Timmins, great turnouts and we’re hoping to either be the beginning or end of the Timmins Sled week. We have already started working with the City of Timmins to make next years’ event bigger and better,” said Vacchino, who also mentioned that she suspects approximately 3,000 spectators took in Saturday’s races.

The mild weather did make a messy area for spectators, but did not impact the track.
