A community group with the main goal of taking over the operations of a skating path at Hollinger Park is giving an update to Timmins council this week.

The Timmins Community Park Association (TCPA) is slated to give a delegation at the Nov. 19 council meeting.

The group took over the operations at the Hollinger Skateway last year and is working to ensure skating returns to the park this winter. The skating trail will be on the walking path on the east side of the park.

The seven members on the board are: president/media director Mark Rogers, vice president Steve Black, secretary/treasurer Reilly Heffernan, social media director Lisa Tremblay, and directors Peter Lawryniw, Paula Roy and Brenda Torresan.

It will run differently than it did in the past.

According to the presentation, the city is responsible for creating and maintaining the ice surface, as well as providing access to washrooms.

The TCPA will take care of the programming and has also bought a 12 x 40-foot trailer for people to change in and to offer a concession.

Last month, Rogers told TimminsToday the anticipated regular hours will be Thursday and Friday 4 p.m. - 9 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. - 9 p.m., and Sunday noon - 6 p.m. Different hours are expected for the Christmas holidays.

The association is also focussed on running events at other city parks.

In March, they're hosting the 2nd Annual Family Fun Day at Roy Nicholson Park on Pine Street North. The delegation also notes that outdoor events will be held at different parks the third Saturday of each month, starting in December 2019.

The presentation notes that the association is purchasing insurance as well and that fundraising is ongoing.

Timmins council meets at 6 p.m. Nov. 19 at city hall. You can read the full TCPA presentation here
