SIU investigating after incident with firearm in Timmins: police

The Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is looking into an incident involving a firearm in Timmins.

According to Timmins Police, it happened in the early-morning hours of Saturday, Oct. 31. It is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Division.

The SIU's mandate has also been invoked.

The SIU is an arm's-length agency that investigates police-involved incidents where there has been a death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assaults.

Police say the intersection of Rea Street South and Bannerman is cordoned off for the investigation.
