Shackled prisoner flees police outside courthouse. Have you seen him? (update)

As a precaution, schools in the North end of the city (St. Paul's, Jacques Cartier, O'Gorman Intermediate, and Sacre Coeur) were placed on a hold and secure for a short amount of time.

Search completed – individual not located

At approximately 12:10 p.m., an individual being escorted from the Ontario Court of Justice by Timmins Police Special Constables fled from police custody.

A ground search of the area was completed by Timmins police officers in the area of Pine Street North and 6th Avenue, for several hours following the escape custody incident.

The Ontario Provincial Police’s Canine Unit also assisted in the search.

After several hours, the containment area was cleared by police and the search of the area was completed.

The suspect, Steven Leduc, 32 was not located.

Leduc is described as being 5’5” tall, 145 lbs, with a thin build, short brown hair and blue eyes. He has a teardrop tattoo below his left eye. When he escaped custody he was wearing a blue and white polo shirt, a charcoal sweater, a beige, lightweight jacket and dark pants, as well as ankle and belly chains.

Police continue to gather information regarding this incident, and a warrant will be issued for the individual’s arrest.

Residents believing they have seen Leduc, or having any information about his whereabouts are asked to contact the Timmins Police Service at 705-264-1201 or Crime Stoppers at 705-268-8477.

Residents are also being asked to check their yards and vehicles and if anything suspicious is noted, to please contact police.

Update regarding individual who escaped police custody this afternoon: police are still searching the area North of 6th Ave.

The individual has not been located by police.

As a precaution, schools in the North end of the city (St. Paul's, Jacques Cartier, O'Gorman Intermediate, and Sacre Coeur) were placed on a hold and secure for a short amount of time.

The area was cleared by police, and the hold and secure has been lifted.

We would like to remind the public that unless information is confirmed by police, or on our official social media sites, it may not be accurate.

We will continue to update residents as more information is known.

The public is reminded to call 911 if this individual is seen.

Officers from the Timmins Police Service are currently searching the area of 6th Avenue and Pine Street North after an individual who was in custody fled from police outside of the Ontario Court of Justice.

The individual, Steven Leduc, 32, is described as approximately 5’5” tall, 145 lbs, with a thin build.

He has short brown hair, and blue eyes, and has a teardrop tattoo below his left eye.

When he fled from police, Leduc was wearing a beige jacket, black pants, ankle shackles and belly chains.

Police believe he may be in the area of Pine Street North and 6th Avenue, and are conducting a search, as well as door knocks in that area.

If residents see this individual, call 9-1-1.

Do not approach this individual.
