Two forest fires burning near Kirkland Lake

There is a high fire hazard for some areas north of Highway 11, according to a provincial update

Three new fires were discovered in the northeast region yesterday, including two near Kirkland Lake. 

Kirkland Lake 1 is located near Round Lake and is being held at 1.3 hectares, according to an Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services update May 21. 

Kirkland Lake 2 is east of Sisseney Lake is being held. It just under one hectare in size. 

The third fire discovered in the northeast yesterday is northwest of Fairbanks Provincial Park. Sudbury 9 under control and about .1 of a hectare in size.

For most northern areas, the fire hazard is low to moderate, with some areas north of Highway 11 showing a high hazard, according to the update. There is also a high hazard for areas in the southern part of the region and in the Greater Sudbury area.
