The Timiskaming Health Unit has reported its second COVID-19 related death.
It is a woman in her 60s who died yesterday at Blanche River Health in Kirkland Lake, according to the health unit. No further details will be provided out of respect for her family.
"All of us at THU are extending our deepest condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time," said Dr. Glenn Corneil, acting medical officer of health, in a news release. "COVID-19 is a dangerous and deadly disease, and it is tragic to lose a member of our community."
To date in the Timiskaming Health Unit region, there have been 120 confirmed cases of the virus. Of those, 106 are resolved and two people have died. There are 12 known active cases. Four cases have screened positive for variants of concern.
