School board swears in new trustee

Larry Wiwchar was sworn in as a Trustee for District School Board Ontario North East at the meeting of the Board on Tuesday, Octt. 5, 2021. Director Lesleigh Dye administered the Declaration of Office and Oath of Allegiance. Trustee Wiwchar will represent Timiskaming Shores, Temagami, Elk Lake and area, following Val Fuller’s retirement on Aug. 31, 2021.

Mr. Wiwchar was the successful applicant of the process put in place by the Board of Trustees to replace Mrs. Fuller. "The Board is very pleased to welcome Trustee Wiwchar to the table. He will without a doubt bring a wealth of knowledge and a fresh perspective to the Board,” commented Chair Brush.

Trustee Wiwchar will undergo a formal orientation to the Board and his duties as Trustee in the coming weeks.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to represent the area and look forward to working closely with all Trustees on the Board. I will endeavour to reflect the rational for the decisions of the Board to the many communities I represent. I welcome any and all input to better reflect local opinions.” said Larry Wiwchar. “We are fortunate to live where we do, and I am anxious to serve the needs of the students in our communities.”

The DSB1 Board of Trustees is comprised of 10 elected Trustees, one nominated Indigenous Trustee and three Student Trustees. The Board meets twice monthly, on Tuesday evenings.
