Scheduled work could affect water quality in parts of Timmins this week.

According to a City of Timmins notice, scheduled water infrastructure maintenance is happening Oct. 5 to Oct. 12. In areas south of Algonquin Boulevard and east of the Mattagami River it could mean brown or rust-coloured water.

"All homes and businesses in the affected area could be without water for a few hours as well coloured water and lower than normal water pressures," reads the notice.

The city is advising people that it's not recommended to drink or wash laundry with discoloured water.

"While it is not harmful to your health, it can stain laundry. Should this occur, it is advised to turn on the cold water tap closest to the source (usually your laundry tub tap) and let it run for approximately 15-20 minutes or until the water colour has returned to normal," according to the city.
