Scattered blood and clothing at Algonquin and Elm. Police close area (10 photos, update)

No word from police on the nature of the incident

9:21 a.m. update:

Timmins Police Services Communications Coordinator Mark Depatie said a “serious assault” occurred during the early morning hours.

One person was taken to Timmins District Hospital for treatment of injuries while another was taken into custody by TPS.

The area will remain cordoned off while forensic officers continue their investigation.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Timmins Police quoting incident # TI16019214 or by calling Crime Stoppers to provide information.

Blood and articles of clothing can be seen on the sidewalk and road behind police tape the intersection of Elm Street North and Algonquin Street East this morning. 

A black Adidas hat, a lighter, and black piece of clothing, possibly a hoodie, lay on the ground near and in blood.

Police were not immediately able to comment on the nature of the incident.

Timmins City Police had taped off about 20 meters of Elm Street, just north of Algonquin Street, blocking off Elm Street, as well part of the sidewalk along Algonquin. 

At 7:30 a.m. this morning westbound traffic along Algonquin Boulevard was blocked by a police cruiser on scene.
