In keeping with its traffic management plan and in consultation with area school bus operation managers, the Timmins Police Service is issuing a traffic safety advisory.

The Timmins Police Service has investigated six collisions involving school buses in Timmins in the last week.

A collision involving a school bus this morning at the intersection of Railway and Moneta has resulted in minor injury to the school bus operator.

In addition, the Timmins Police is in receipt of a number of near miss traffic complaints by school bus drivers involving allegations of aggressive driving.

Being mindful of these circumstances, the Timmins Police Service is advising local motorists to be particularly attentive to their individual driving behaviours in relation to situations where the driver is meeting, following, or overtaking school buses as an extra level of attention is required.

Passengers of these vehicles are young children and their safety is, and must be, the undeniable priority for area drivers.

Enhanced traffic safety is the result of a collaborative effort between all drivers to operate their vehicles in a safe and responsible manner at all times.
