Roller skating, nature photography for teens and more in Timmins this week

The Urban Park will be set up on Pine Street South between Third and Second this week. The event runs Wednesday to Friday, offering kids’ activities Wednesday, a farmers’ market Thursday and Friday is Tunes at Noon. It runs from about 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Keep in mind on Thursday that the vendors can’t start selling their goods until the market bell rings at 11 a.m. This week's theme is science.

For the summer concert series, there is a show Aug. 1 at the Schumacher Lions Club park near the McIntyre Arena. This week will see Kickback Tracii take the stage at 6 p.m., Sabrina and Dave at 7 p.m., and Aaron Reid at 8:15 p.m.

The Cochrane District Master Gardeners are sharing their expertise with local gardeners. They’ll be at the C.M. Shields Centennial Branch in South Porcupine for a herb harvesting and preserving workshop Tuesday, July 31 at 6:30 p.m. They’ll be talking about the different options for preserving herbs and when they should be harvested.

The Gold Miners’ Daughters host public roller skate nights every Thursday at the McIntyre Curling Club. It runs from 7 to 9 p.m. The cost is $3, and if you need skates the rental is $5. Limited sizes are available for rentals.

The Digital Creator crew is heading outside for nature photography this week. The free outdoor sessions are for teens ages 14 to 19. The program starts at 1 p.m. every day and is being offered Tuesday, July 31 at Bannerman Park, Aug. 1 at Participark, and Aug. 2 at the McIntyre Arena. Friday, the group is meeting at 1 p.m. at the Timmins Public Library, then heading to Hersey Lake Conservation Area on a shuttle bus courtesy of the Healthy Kids Community Challenge.
