A retired nurse has picked up a prestigious award.

Colleen Landers was recently honoured with the John Jenkins Award at the Canadian Standard Association (CSA) of Canada's annual general meeting in Halifax. It's the highest award that the CSA hands out and the winner must have previously won the organization's Award of Merit.

The Timmins woman was given the award "in recognition of exceptional leadership, outstanding commitment to education, and significant contributions to the development of standards for medical device reprocessing in healthcare."

Landers became a registered nurse in 1967 and worked at Timmins hospitals for 37 years before starting Landers Consulting in 2000. She retired from nursing in 2020 and has maintained her status as a registered nurse. She had been involved in a number of CSA committees and won the Award of Merit in 2005.

"Colleen passionately shares her knowledge and works wholeheartedly on the development, implementation, and active promotion of CSA standards to all relevant stakeholders as a speaker at both national and international conferences and through her ongoing professional work in consulting and standards development. She is a dedicated advocate for using existing standards, with an eye on new and emerging technology that could benefit from standardization," said the organization in the announcement.
