Recent rain, melting snow means water levels are up in the Timmins area

The snow depth continues to be below normal, with the Shining Tree station having no snow

With recent rain and higher temperatures, local water levels are up.

In the spring, the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority provides regular updates about where the area is in terms of snow depth and runoff. The latest update was released today (April 16).

Across the Upper Mattagami Watershed, the snow depth and water content for this time of year continues to be below normal. The water content variances throughout the area are 26 per cent to 75 per cent below normal. The Shining Tree station has no snow.

"Inflows across the Upper Mattagami watershed have now increased and are at elevated levels with the recent precipitation and snow melt.  All reservoirs are currently building upstream of Timmins," reads the update.

Portions of Town and Crawford creek along with other watercourses are flowing well and continue to be closely watched.

There are several sites where snow course readings are taken, with this year's snow depth being below normal across the board.
