Tickets are being snapped up fast for Dinner in White, an evening of fine food and beverage hosted by Brianna Humphrey and the team from The Radical Garden Market in Timmins.

The event takes place on August 20, beginning at 6 p.m., and will feature live jazz music and complimentary cocktails.

“It's five local chefs, each cooking their own course of only local food and food I sell,” said Humphrey.

“It's right along the edge of our farm field on Dalton Road. We'll have a big tent up. It will all be white linen and white chairs, and everybody has to come dressed in white,” she said.

Humphrey elaborated on the dress code.

“If all you have is a white bathrobe and tube socks, then that's what you're wearing, and that's okay. It's not a formal event. It's an eccentric, weird, Radical Gardens event.”

Humphrey says guests will receive a big bang for their bucks.

“Your $120 ticket comes with a reusable cooler bag, you can use it for picnics or to get groceries, and your entire meal is paired with wine. Each course is completely different,” she said.

The chefs signed on for the event are:

  • Jill St. Amour, Executive Chef at Cedar Meadows

  • Michael York, Chef at Coffee Warehouse

  • Diane Rochefort, Personal Chef

  • Kymm Morre, Red Seal Patissier, currently working in Muskoka

  • Stephanie Kotay, local Chef

“It's the same idea as any dinner in white that goes on around the world. They're big in Paris, Italy, New York. In Paris, they do one in front of the Eiffel Tower and a couple thousand people attend,” she said.

Humphrey originally wanted to have the event at a city park, but the logistics and red-tape to make it happen turned out to be more trouble than it was worth.

“We scaled it down and moved it to the farm. We control the logistics there.”

She says the menu is 'very interesting' but would not reveal any further details. It should be released in the next week or so.

“The problem is, we've had to adjust accordingly because we live in Northern Ontario and sometimes I can't find everything that the chefs want. We only go as far south as New Liskeard. We are using peaches, which are coming from Southern Ontario, I lost a battle with a chef on that one, but I fought it hard,” she said with a chuckle.

Tickets were put up for a sale one week after her storefront at the corner of Fifth and Balsam opened on July 15.

“We were mostly sold out by the end of that week. For $120 a ticket, you'll never experience anything like this. The price is literally just covering the cost of the event. We're not making a cent off this, we just wanted to do it because it's cool."

The few tickets remaining can be purchased at The Radical Garden Market store.
