While the city pool is closed to the public, the deck floor is being updated.

Timmins council has awarded a $176,625 plus HST project to FBMC Inc. to supply and install a new floor surface on the Archie Dillon Sportsplex pool deck.

“The floor is approximately 17 years old and it normally has a lifespan of approximately 20 years, however its current condition definitely warrants replacement,” Marc Jensen, director of community and development services, told council.

The staff report also notes the "flooring is no longer compliant with public health regulations".

The pool is still closed because of COVID-19. Jensen said doing the work now is a chance to do the project before it reopens in late August.

Two tenders were received for the project. FBMC's was the lowest and about $13,375 lower than the $190,000 earmarked for it in the city's 2020 capital budget.
