Timmins Police have issued a public advisory about an "apparent phishing campaign" for a local market event circulating on Facebook.

This morning, a Facebook post for an outdoor pop-up shop at Hollinger Park in June was shared. People were encouraged to direct message the organizer.

"The event depicted on Facebook regarding a sales festival in Timmins is fictitious," reads the police advisory.

"The event is not a legitimate affair and is not booked with the City of Timmins, nor has an application for a permit been received.

Apparently, this is a very common scam in Southern Ontario and designed to take advantage of small to mid-sized vendors during these challenging times."
