TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE

*************************
The Timmins Police Service is in support of the 2015 Crime Prevention Campaign by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP). The campaign kicked off on February 25, 2015, with a focus on property crime.

The campaign is part of the OACP’s annual crime prevention campaign, which focuses on a board range of crimes that impact Ontario residents and businesses, including on-line fraud, identity theft and other cybercrimes, auto theft and break and enters.

As part of the campaign, a new crime prevention booklet is now available to the public, containing helpful crime prevention tips and information.

“Here in Timmins, we have seen numerous reports of crimes such as on-line theft and fraud,” explained Kate Cantin, Corporate Communications Coordinator with the Timmins Police Service. “Reports of theft from vehicles continue to be a concern. This campaign allows us to encourage residents – whether it be homeowners, young people, seniors, businesses, renters – to take a little extra time in ensuring their property is protected at all times.”

Tips to help prevent property crime include making sure your home always looks ‘lived in,’ ensuring your vehicle is locked at all times, avoiding leaving an unattended vehicle running, and never providing personal or financial information to unknown requestors online or over the phone (regardless of any reasons they may give for requiring this information.)

For more property crime tips, the OACP’s crime prevention booklet is available for download via www.oacp.ca or at www.timminspolice.ca.
