Police spot SUV being driven erratically. Charges ensue

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man stemming from an incident which occurred during the evening hours of Sunday, April 22.

While performing general patrol of his assigned zone, a Timmins Police Service officer had occasion to observe an SUV being driven in an erratic fashion. The officer followed the vehicle with his emergency lighting in use for a period of time.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop in a residential area in the south end of the city. Based on observations made by the officer, the driver was arrested and taken into custody. As a result of the incident, Steve Lamothe, 36, of Timmins, has been charged with:

  • Flight While Being Pursued by a Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada - Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Fail to Provide Breath Sample contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Drive While Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The accused was released from custody and is required to attend Provincial Court on May 8 to answer to the charges laid against him.
