An annual bursary honouring the memory of a local police officer was handed out last week.

Riley McGlynn received the 2023 Constable Dale MacDonald Memorial Bursary, which is handed out to a Northern College Police Foundations student who displays leadership and community involvement while maintaining notable academic achievement.

"Const. Dale MacDonald served the City of Timmins as a police officer with distinction and professionalism," said Timmins Police in a statement.

"This bursary serves two important functions. Firstly, to assist a young prospective police officer reach his or her career aspirations. Secondly, to maintain the memory of a fine officer and his exemplary work ethic.

"Mrs. MacDonald, who places a very high personal value on the importance of education, was most proud to be on hand at these festivities, acknowledging her late husband."

Timmins Police Chief Dan Foy and Const. Luc Lamarche, who is the Timmins Police Association president, were also at the ceremony.
