Police seize methamphetamines, heroin during arrest

Police say the accused broke into two downtown office buildings recently, stealing petty cash, electronic devices and other items

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local person with break and enter related offences stemming from a set of incidents that occurred at separate locations on April 16 and again on April 18.

Based on separate investigations, the Timmins Police Service has determined that a suspect gained entry by force into a Third Avenue office building on Saturday, April 16 and ransacked a medical office, making off with petty cash and office documents.

The Timmins Police Service has further determined that the same suspect gained entry by force into a Second Avenue office building during the evening hours of Monday, April 18 and made off with electronic devices, petty cash, and other items.

The Timmins Police were able to identify and locate the suspect and take him into custody without incident on Tuesday April 19.

Upon arrest, some of the stolen items were located in his possession along with quantities of methamphetamines and heroin.

As a result of the incidents, George Stephen, 31, of no fixed address (Timmins), has been charged with: 

  • 2 counts of Break and Enter contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • 2 counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • 2 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act. 
  • Trafficking in Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • 4 counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
