Police Lay Forgery Charge

Following a recent incident in Timmins, a Quebec man is facing one count of forgery.

Following a recent incident in Timmins, a Quebec man is facing one count of forgery.

During the morning hours of November 21, 2013, the suspect approached an individual and offered the individual a sum of money to cash a cheque on his behalf, claiming he had forgotten his identification.

The suspect then produced a cheque in his name totaling over $900, and began to proceed to a nearby bank. As the result of information received by police, a traffic stop was conducted and a search warrant executed at a local hotel.

Upon searching the suspect’s hotel room, investigators located a laptop with cheque printing software open and running.

Farah MIGUIL, 29, of Lasalle, QC was charged with forgery, and was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police would like to remind all residents to be wary of individuals making requests having to do with personal banking, cheque cashing, or offering money in exchange for some type of favour or service.
