Police lay drug trafficking charges after seizing meth, opioids in Kirkland Lake

KIRKLAND LAKE - On Aug. 25, 2019, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) and members from the Kirkland Lake OPP Detachment, executed a search warrant at a residence on McCamus Avenue in the Town of Kirkland Lake, Ont. 

Police seized drugs suspected to be methamphetamine and opioids as well as Canadian currency. Total street value of the seizure is estimated to be $2,300.  

As a result of the police investigation, the OPP have charged two people.

Cynthia Herlichka, age 55, and Justine Perreault, age 22, both of Kirkland Lake, have been charged with the following:  

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
  • Possession of a scheduled I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,
  • Possession of a scheduled I substance - opioid, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA, and
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC).

Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, on Oct. 3, 2019.
