Timmins Police investigate residential fire with OFM

The Timmins Police Service is currently involved in investigating a residential house fire on Balsam Street North in Timmins.

The fire occurred during the evening hours of Sunday, February 19 and resulted in significant structural damage to the residence which is composed of a number of apartments.

The Timmins Police engaged the use of its Forensic Identification Unit as well as officers from the Criminal Investigations Division.

The Timmins Police is working in consultation with the Ontario Fire Marshall’s office.

OFM investigators are expected to attend the scene to complete their aspect of the investigation into the origin of the fire that police deem to be suspicious in nature.

The scene of the fire remains sealed under the control of the Timmins Police Service to preserve the integrity of the scene and allow for the investigation to continue.

At present, the investigation is focused on persons of interest who have been identified to the Timmins Police Service.

The investigation is on-going but anyone with relevant information is asked to call the Timmins Police Service at 705-264-1201 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
