Police, fire investigating blaze at housing complex

Units sustained 'considerable damage'

The Timmins Police Service, working in collaboration with the Timmins Fire Department, is in the initial phases of investigating a morning fire at a Sterling Avenue multi-unit apartment unit.

The initial call came in shortly after 11:00 this morning where an eight-unit apartment dwelling was fully engulfed in a working fire.

Evacuations of the attached units were completed by responding Timmins Fire Department personnel as well as Timmins Police officers

The structure and adjacent units sustained considerable damage due to the fire.

It is unknown at present how many people have been displaced by the fire.

Once deemed safe to do so, an initial assessment of the structure can be commenced by the Timmins Fire Department and Timmins Police Service – Forensic Identification Unit officers in an effort to determine the origin of the fire.

The scene remains under the control of the Timmins Fire Department.
