There will be three new faces among the Timmins Police Service’s special constables.

The police services board has approved the hiring of three part time special constables to fill recent vacancies.

The successful candidates approved by the board are Marguerite (Maggie) Poulin, Nicholas Oreskovich, and Logan Ferrington. All three are graduates of the police foundations program at Northern College.

Timmins Police Deputy Chief Henry Dacosta said the service has three full time and seven part time special constables.

He said special constables have various functions and are a “great asset” to the service.

“A lot of their work is over at the court house, transporting prisoners, overseeing the prisoners, ensuring their safety, working within the courts, serving court documents and even other functions outside of the courthouse, so if we have a major scene at times we’ll call them and they’ll do scene security,” he said.

“We can get them to go out into the community and assist our officers if we require something within that area.”
