Plenty to do at Gillies Lake Stars and Thunder

It's the people's celebration. There's no admission and it's fun for the whole family

So, you don't have a ticket for the main stage performances at Hollinger Park - there is still plenty for you and the family to do at Gillies Lake where you can listen to local and regional bands, pick up a good book or handicraft and try your hand at climbing a wall.

Gillies Lake Stars and Thunder is the people's celebration. There is no admission. Fun for the whole family. Plenty of local talent in the fields of music, literature and craft.

Four large white teepees provided by Timmins Native Friendship Centre and Misiway Health serve as the focal point for the Gillies Lake event.

There is a well attended rock climbing gym where you can try to climb to the top.

The Northern Ontario Book Fair, in the large red tent features books by local authors and the crafts are made by Northern Ontario crafts people.

If you get hungry there are scone dogs at the Timmins Native Friendship Centre Teepee or regular hamburger or hotdogs at the entrance to Gillies Lake.

Musical acts play from 12 noon to 4 p.m.

And if you are truly curious as to what is going on at the main stage, but can't afford it -- listening is free and there are a couple of vantage points where you can get a peek at the some of the musical acts.
