Timmins Police investigate collision involving pedestrian

The Timmins Police Service has completed its investigation into a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.

At approximately 8:25 p.m. yesterday evening (Feb 7), a 60-year-female pedestrian was struck by the driver of a 2007 Ford passenger vehicle.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Algonquin Blvd and Mountjoy Street in Timmins. Based on the investigation, the Timmins Police is able to confirm that the pedestrian was proceeding across Algonquin Blvd, walking south from the north/west corner of the intersection.

The vehicle was in the eastbound lane at the intersection, stopped for the red light.

The advanced turn signal for the eastbound traffic turned green and the vehicle proceeded to cross the intersection and struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian sustained minor injuries which were deemed to be non-life threatening.

She was taken by ambulance to Timmins and District Hospital where she received medical treatment.

Timmins Police spoke to several witnesses on scene as well as reviewed the Timmins Police CCTV camera from that intersection in the process of completing its investigation.

The pedestrian has been determined as “at fault” and has been charged with pedestrian disobey 'Don’t Walk signal' contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
