The Timmins Police Service has completed its investigation into a collision involving a pedestrian on Tuesday morning (December 6th) at the intersection of Spruce Street and Algonquin Boulevard in Timmins.

As a result of the collision, a 72-year-old female pedestrian was taken to Timmins and District Hospital by ambulance for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver, a 48-year-old Timmins man, has been charged with fail to yield to pedestrian contrary to section 144(7) of the Highway Traffic Act.

Motor vehicle collisions involving pedestrians are up in Timmins, year to date, as well as provincewide.

This trend is being addressed by the Traffic Section of the Timmins Police Service with enhanced patrols at key intersections with high volume pedestrian traffic.

While a number of pedestrian MVCs have concluded that the individual pedestrian was at fault, there is significant room for improvement in regards to cases where the driver was at fault or caused a near-miss situation.

Motorists are asked to increase their individual levels of attention when approaching and proceeding through intersections in Timmins where pedestrian traffic is typically high.
