Over 700 people received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in the past week.
The Porcupine Health Unit's weekly epidemiology report is out and breaks down where the region is at.
As of Aug. 16, there had been 1,139 cases in the region where a variant of concern has been detected, which is an increase of seven since the last report. All are the more contagious delta B1.617.2 variant, bringing the total number of confirmed delta cases in the region to 59.
Since last week's report, 712 more people have been fully vaccinated, bringing the total number of people with both doses of the vaccine to 42,550. According to Stats Canada, in 2016 the population of the health unit region was 84,201.
There has been an increase of 299 people who received their first dose, bringing the total number of people who have received their first dose of the vaccine to 49,888. There have been 92,438 doses of the vaccine administered.
When the numbers were pulled for the report on Aug. 16, there had been 2,154 confirmed cases of the virus, an increase of one from last week’s update.
Of the total confirmed cases in the region since the start of the pandemic, 51.5 per cent are male and 48.3 per cent are female.
People 20 to 39 years make up the largest number of cases, with 771 people (35.8 per cent of all cases) being in that demographic. There have been 712 cases (33.1 per cent) in people ages 19 and under, 428 people (19.9 per cent of cases) between the ages of 40-59, 185 people (8.6 per cent) are between the ages of 60-79, and 58 people (2.7 per cent) are 80 and over.
For where people are located, 994 cases have been in Timmins; 261 in the area Matheson, Iroquois Falls, Cochrane and Smooth Rock Falls; 104 in the Kapuskasing area; 98 in the Hearst, Hornepayne area; 688 in the James and Hudson Bay region; and nine are out of region.
Of the confirmed cases, 1,332 (61.8 per cent) were contacts of a case, the exposure of 17 (0.8 per cent) is under investigation, there is no known exposure for 513 (23.8 per cent), 273 (12.6 per cent) are associated to an outbreak, and 19 cases are travel-related.
The case fatality rate in the Porcupine Health Unit region is 1.4 per cent. The provincial rate is 1.7 per cent.
The test positivity rate for the region at the time of the report was 1.8 per cent. In Northern Ontario the positivity rate is 1 per cent and the provincial rate is 3.3 per cent.
