OPP Investigation Ongoing

(KAPUSKASING, ON.) – Following several theft, break and enter and stolen vehicle events in the Kapuskasing area in the past months, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has made several arrests in relation to the rash of criminal activity.

On November 19, 2013, following a comprehensive property related crime investigation, the Kapuskasing OPP and the Crime Unit executed two search warrants at local residences and recovered numerous stolen property items. Seven persons have been arrested in conjunction with the recent property related crimes and the OPP has laid 38 criminal charges up to date, ranging from Theft at residence, Break and enter of motor vehicle, theft of firearms, Theft of motor vehicle, Possession of stolen property, Possession of prohibited weapons and Possession of break and enter instruments, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

“Multiple incidents have been cleared due to the recent developments but police continue their investigation and anticipate making more arrests”, said James Bay Detachments Area Crime Supervisor Detective Sergeant Baldassare Nuccio. Six of the seven accused males from the Kapuskasing area have been identified as young persons ranging in ages between 14 and 17 years old. Five of the young offenders have been released from police custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kapuskasing at a later date. One 14 year old male and 26 year old Kevin LANTEIGNE of Kapuskasing are still in custody and are scheduled for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kapuskasing on November 26, 2013.
