SIU Invokes Mandate

(COCHRANE, ON) – On the evening of November 24, 2013, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service in Cochrane.

Upon arriving at the residence, a male party began to interfere with police investigation.  As a result, he was arrested and sustained injuries requiring medical attention.  The 46 year old male was transported to the hospital for medication examination and later released unconditionally.

 

OPP CHARGE DRIVER WITH OVER 80

(IROQUOIS FALLS) – An officer with the Iroquois Falls Ontario Provincial Police has arrested and charged a Monteith driver for driving while being over the legal limit during the early morning hours of November 23rd, on Main Street in Iroquois Falls.

While conducting sobriety checks of area drivers in keeping with the festive RIDE campaign, an OPP officer had stopped a Pontiac G-5 passenger vehicle.

The driver was interviewed and, based on observations made by the OPP officer, was required to complete an on-site breath test procedure.

Based on the outcome of that breath test, the driver was arrested and taken to the Iroquois Falls OPP detachment to complete Intoxilyzer breath testing procedures.

Additionally, an open bottle of liquor was located within the vehicle.

As a result of the investigative steps taken by the OPP, Daryl SOPCHYSHYN, 24, of

Monteith, Ontario, has been charged with:

-       Operate Motor Vehicle – over 80 Mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

-       Having Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle with an open Container of Liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence Act

SOPCHYSHYN has been released from police custody with a first appearance court date of January 7th, 2014 at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the criminal charge laid against him.

 

OPP EXECUTE SEARCH WARRANT – LAY DRUG CHARGES

(IROQUOIS FALLS) – The Iroquois Falls Ontario Provincial Police have arrested and charged a 5 area persons with drug related charges based on their investigation which culminated with the execution of a search warrant in Iroquois Falls.

On November 21st, Ontario Provincial Police officers executed a search warrant at a Campion Street address.

As a result, a quantity of suspected marijuana and methamphetamine were located and seized.

The investigation has been completed and

- Albert DENAULT, 20, of Iroquois Falls

- Mary DENAULT, 52, of Iroquois Falls

- Jamie LAPOINTE, 23, of Timmins

- Edwin MCKNIGHT, 50, of Iroquois Falls

- Kayla THERIAULT, 19, of Matheson

have been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.

All except for LAPOINTE were released from police custody on a Promise to Appear requiring them to attend Provincial Court in Timmins on January 21st, 2014 to answer to the charges laid against them.

Additional charges of Breach of Probation and Fail to Comply with Conditions of an Undertaking required a bail hearing for Jamie LAPOINTE.

He was subsequently released with a court date of December 10th, 2013.

 

SOUTH PORCUPINE OPP CHARGE SUSPENDED DRIVER

(SOUTH PORCUPINE) – An officer with the South Porcupine Ontario Provincial Police has charged a Hearst man with Driving Under Suspension stemming from a routine traffic stop on November 21st, 2013.

While en route to his assigned patrol zone, an OPP officer had occasion to stop the driver of a Pontiac passenger vehicle for an alleged traffic violation on Algonquin Blvd in Timmins.

 

Based on the routine investigative steps taken by the OPP officer, it was determined that the driver is currently under suspension in the province of Ontario.

Patrick CARRIER, 18, of Hearst, Ontario, has been charged with Driving While Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

CARRIER is required to attend Provincial Court in Timmins on January 9th to answer to the charge laid against him.

The vehicle was removed by a licenced driver.
