POLICE INVESTIGATE DEATH IN CONSTANCE LAKE FIRST NATION

(CONSTANCE LAKE, ON) – In the early morning hours of November 30, 2013 members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) responded to an altercation at a residence situated on the Constance Lake First Nation Territory. Emergency services attended and located Fabian BUNTING, 35 years old, of Constance Lake First Nation with no vital signs. 

At the request of the NAPS, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North East Region Crime Unit, and members of the James Bay Detachments, under the direction of Detective Inspector Peter Loree of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch were called in to assist in this death investigation.

Bradley BUNTING, a 28 year old male, from Constance Lake First Nation has been charged with Second Degree Murder contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code. The accused is being held in police custody and is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on December 2, 2013.

A post mortem examination is scheduled for December 3, 2013.  The investigation is continuing.  Anyone with information in relation to the investigation is asked to contact the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service at (705) 272-5600 ext. 34 or the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

OPP RIDE STOP YIELDS DRUG POSSESSION CHARGES

(SOUTH PORCUPINE) – The South Porcupine Ontario Provincial Police has laid drug related charges against a pair of Timmins men stemming from a RIDE traffic stop on November 27th on Pine Street South in Adams Twp.

While conducting RIDE sobriety checks, OPP officers had occasion to interview a motorist at the roadside.

Based on investigative cues observed by the officer, the driver and passenger were arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance.

As a result of a search under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act, the OPP officer located and seized approximately 7.5 grams of suspected marijuana.

Further administrative investigation revealed that the driver was currently under suspension in the province of Ontario.

Guihaume CANUEL, 28, of Timmins, has been charged with one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act as well as Driving Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

Joshua COLE, 24, of Timmins, has been charged with one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.

The accused persons were released from police custody but must attend Provincial Court in Timmins on April 22nd, 2014, to answer to the charges laid against them.

The vehicle was removed from the scene by a licenced driver.

 

SOUTH PORCUPINE OPP CHARGE SUSPENDED DRIVER

(SOUTH PORCUPINE) – An officer with the South Porcupine Ontario Provincial Police has charged a Timmins man with Driving Under Suspension stemming from a routine traffic stop on November 28th, 2013.

The OPP officer had occasion to stop the driver of a Mercedes passenger vehicle for an alleged traffic violation on Hwy 101 within the city of Timmins.

Based on the routine investigative steps taken by the OPP officer, it was determined that the driver is currently under suspension in the province of Ontario.

Daniel LAVERDURE, 32, of Timmins, Ontario, has been charged with Driving While Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

He is required to attend Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.

 

OPP REQUEST THE PUBLICS ASSISTANCE

(COBALT, ON)  Members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to an attempt child abduction on November 28th, 2013 at approximately 3:40 p.m.

A 13-year-old boy was walking home from school in Cobalt when he was approached by a man near the train station.

The stranger tried to lure the youth into his vehicle by telling him that his parents had asked him to pick him up at school and return him home.  Even though the youth declined, the suspect persisted.

The youth returned home safe to find out that his parents had never made the request for him to be picked up.

The suspect is described as:

·         White male

·         Approximately age 40

·         Dark beard

·         Thin/muscular build

The suspect vehicle is described as:

·         Burgundy/Purple Dodge Ram 4x4

·         4-doors

·         Grey strip across the doors

·         Black winter rims

·         Dark tint on back window

The OPP reminds all members of the public to be aware of their personal safety, and that of children, at all times. COCHRANE OPP AUXILIARY UNIT HOSTING STUFF A CRUISER EVENT

(COCHRANE, ON)-This Christmas, make a child smile by donating a toy. The Cochrane Ontario Provincial Police Auxiliary Unit will host a "Stuff a Cruiser Event" on Saturday, December 7, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

OPP Cruisers will be parked in front of Giant Tiger and Canadian Tire store with the goal of filling the cruisers with toys at each location, again this year. All toys collected will be turned over to the Jeanne Sauvé Family Services for distribution to children up to 16 years of age.
