With just days to go until the 2018 Stars and Thunder music festival, the opening day headliner has been changed.

According to the City of Timmins, Eric Lapointe, who was slated to headline the Sunday concert, has laryngitis.

"Unfortunately he will need more time to heal this infection, which has afflicted him for the last few weeks. In doing so, he regrets to announce he will not be able to perform in Timmins this year," reads a statement from the city.

"Eric, however, has worked hard with the committee to ensure fans still enjoy a fantastic lineup. His good friend and fellow judge from La Voix, Marc Dupre, has decided to take his place."

In an update to council last night, CAO Dave Landers told council that about 7,000 tickets have been sold for the eight-day music festival, which will also feature four fireworks displays. The headliner for the final Canada Day show is Bryan Adams.
