Ontario reports 183 new COVID cases for July 9

Today's update includes nine new hospitalizations and nine deaths

Public Health Ontario has reported 183 new COVID-19 cases today in the July 9 daily update.

Today's update includes 233 new recoveries and nine deaths. 

The nine deaths reported today include three people between 40 and 59 years old, five people between 60 and 79 years old, and one person over 79 years old. 

There have been nine new hospitalizations and six patients admitted to intensive care units since yesterday's report.

The July 9 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 1,757 active, lab-confirmed cases, down from 1,816 yesterday.
  • 189 COVID-positive people are currently hospitalized in Ontario.
  • There are 202 patients in intensive care units with COVID-related illness (of those, 51 no longer test positive for COVID-19).
  • 143 people are on ventilators due to COVID-related illness (of those, 31 no longer test positive for COVID-19).
  • The province reported 26,101 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 0.7 per cent positivity rate. 
  • There are 9,714 tests still awaiting processing, and the provincial labs have processed 16.1 million tests to date.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 50 are from Waterloo, 22 are from Toronto, 24 cases are from Peel, two are from Simcoe-Muskoka, 24 are from Grey-Bruce, and seven are from York Region.
  • Today's cases include 41 individuals aged 19 and under, 70 people between 20 and 39 years old, 48 people between 40 and 59 years old, 23 people between 60 and 79 years old, and one person over 79 years old.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 546,804 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 535,810 recoveries and 9,237 deaths.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,676.6 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 9.2 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 23.3 per cent from last week.

Vaccines

  • There were 224,864 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday.
  • 16,619,927 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • In total, 6,515,960 people have been fully vaccinated.

Northern Ontario

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 400 cases, weekly rate of 0 cases per 100,000 people. There are no known active cases.
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 611 cases, weekly rate of 9.2 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 613  cases. There are 17 known active cases. 
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 2,089 cases, weekly rate of 33.6 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,091. There are 34 known active cases.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 2,150 cases, weekly rate of 2.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,171 cases. There are five known active cases. 
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 208 cases, weekly rate of 0 cases per 100,000 people. There are no known active cases. 
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 1,094 cases, weekly rate of 5.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,092. There are three known active cases.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,340 cases, weekly rate of 2 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,341. There are three known active cases.
