Public Health Ontario reported 865 new COVID cases today for Sept. 1.
The latest update noted 681 recoveries and 14 deaths, but nine of the deaths occurred more than two months ago and were not previously reported.
The Sept. 2 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- Of the new cases reported today, 540 were unvaccinated people, 88 were partially vaccinated, 173 were fully vaccinated, and 64 are listed as vaccination status unknown (missing health card information).
- 6,031 active, lab-confirmed cases, up from 5,861 yesterday.
- 320 COVID-positive people are currently hospitalized in Ontario.
- Of the COVID patients hospitalized and not in the ICU, 141 are unvaccinated, 12 are partially vaccinated, and 28 are fully vaccinated.
- There are 137 COVID-positive patients in intensive care, plus another 25 patients who no longer test positive for COVID-19.
- 87 COVID patients are on ventilators and another 18 patients on ventilators no longer test positive for COVID-19.
- Of the COVID patients in the ICU, 90 are unvaccinated, eight are partially vaccinated, and 14 are fully vaccinated.
- 9,983,796 Ontarians (about 67 per cent of the total population) have been fully vaccinated and another 860,217 (six per cent of Ontario population) have a single dose of COVID vaccine. Approximately 27 per cent of the population is unvaccinated.
- The province reported 27,293 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a three per cent positivity rate. Provincial labs have processed 17.2 million tests to date.
- Of the new cases reported today 175 are from Toronto, 104 are from Peel, 51 are from Simcoe-Muskoka, and 91 are from York Region.
- Today's cases include 136 individuals under 12 years old, 76 youth between 12 and 19 years old, 379 people between 20 and 39 years old, 191 people between 40 and 59 years old, 74 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 10 people over 79 years old.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 567,071 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 551,510 recoveries and 9,530 deaths.
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,848.7 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.
Ontario's average weekly incidence rate last week was 33 cases per 100,000 people, which is up by 14.6 per cent from the week beginning Aug. 17.

Northern Ontario
In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:
- Algoma Public Health: 433 cases, weekly rate of 9.3 cases per 100,000 people. There are 14 known active cases.
- North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 681 cases, weekly rate of 4.6 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 683 cases. There are eight known active cases.
- Porcupine Health Unit: 2,172 cases, weekly rate of 12.9 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,174 cases. There are 15 known active cases.
- Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 2,266 cases, weekly rate of 17.1 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,285 cases. There are 35 known active cases.
- Timiskaming Health Unit: 209 cases, weekly rate of 0 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 210 cases. There is one known active case.
- Northwestern Health Unit: 1,121 cases, weekly rate of 6.2 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,120 cases. There are five known active cases.
- Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,367 cases, weekly rate of 5.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,368 cases. There are 11 known active cases.
