Ontario reports 409 new COVID cases Thursday

Public Health Ontario reported 409 new COVID cases today.

The latest updates noted 366 recoveries and three new deaths.

The Oct. 28 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:

  • 3,018 active, lab-confirmed cases, up from 2,978 yesterday. 
  • 197 people are hospitalized with COVID-19.
  • There are 104 COVID-positive patients in the ICU plus another 28 patients no longer testing positive for COVID-19.
  • There are 71 COVID-positive patients on ventilators and another 22 patients on ventilators no longer testing positive for COVID. 
  • 10,977,572 Ontarians (about 74 per cent of the total population) have been fully vaccinated. 88 per cent of eligible Ontarians have at least one dose of vaccine.
  • The new cases include 220 unvaccinated, 16 partially vaccinated, and 144 fully vaccinated cases. 29 cases were reported with vaccination status unknown. 
  • There are 93 unvaccinated, 10 partially vaccinated, and 28 fully vaccinated individuals hospitalized with COVID but not in the ICU. 
    There are 60 unvaccinated, eight partially vaccinated, and 16 fully vaccinated individuals in ICUs with COVID-19. 
  • The seven-day average incidence rate by vaccination status is 5.7 cases per 100,000 unvaccinated people, 2.5 cases per 100,000 partially vaccinated people, and 1.1 cases per 100,000 fully vaccinated people.
  • The province reported 21,827 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 1.5 per cent positivity rate.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 54 are from Toronto, 45 are from Peel, 21 are from Simcoe-Muskoka, and 25 are from York Region.
  • Today's new cases include 83 individuals under 12 years old, 32 youth between 12 and 19 years old, 122 people between 20 and 39 years old, 95 people between 40 and 59 years old, 73 people between 60 and 79 years old, and six people over 79 years old.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 598,840 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 585,957 recoveries and 9,865 deaths.

Since the start of the pandemic, 30,518 people have been hospitalized with COVID and 5,978 of them were in intensive care units.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 4,064.3 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate last week was 17 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 12.8 per cent compared to the week of Oct. 11.

Northern Ontario 

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 511 cases, weekly rate of 18.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 512 cases. There are 30 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 90 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 85 per cent have both doses.
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 803 cases, weekly rate of 6.2 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 805 cases. There are 7 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 86 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 82 per cent have both doses.
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 2,220 cases, weekly rate of 7.1  cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,222 cases. There is 1 known active case. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 89 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 83 per cent have both doses.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 2,734 cases, weekly rate of 67.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,778 cases. There are 199 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 90 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 86 per cent have both doses.
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 244 cases, weekly rate of 20.7 cases per 100,000 people.  The health unit has reported 246 cases. There are 6 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 87 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 82 per cent have both doses.
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 1,193 cases, weekly rate of 2.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,192 cases. There are 2 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 89 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 82 per cent have both doses.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,416 cases, weekly rate of 9.5 cases per 100,000 people. There are 12 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 93 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 88 per cent have both doses.
